Project Description

United Therapeutics, a pioneering biotechnology company dedicated to advancing groundbreaking solutions for patients facing chronic and life-threatening conditions, recently undertook a significant renovation project at its corporate research and development facility in Manchester, NH. This initiative aimed to transform the workspace into a post-pandemic environment, fostering flexibility and modern and industrial aesthetics.

The 98,000-square-foot renovation, situated within a repurposed mill along the scenic riverbanks, is the initial phase of a comprehensive multi-stage project encompassing the entire building. The expansion primarily focuses on the south portion of first and second, and entire third and fourth floors, housing laboratories, corporate offices, and amenities. Inspired by the site’s industrial history and lush surroundings, the design integrates natural materials, drawing from the greenery and adjacent river. Embracing the principles of biophilia, the layout enhances the connection between indoors and outdoors, accentuated by ample natural light.

In addition to the workspace transformation, the project includes the enhancement and creation of various amenity spaces. These features encompass a gym, a fully equipped catering kitchen, a beverage bar, open lounge collaboration areas adjoining perimeter offices, and a dedicated mother’s wellness and meditation room.

The design team, recognizing the importance of corporate culture, sought innovative ways to reflect United Therapeutics’ values and brand identity. One such creative manifestation is a display shelf shaped like the United Therapeutics logo, strategically placed in the lobby. This unique installation serves as a showcase for prototypes of the company’s pioneering medical devices, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to innovation. The completed portion of this renovation project not only aligns with the evolving needs of the post-pandemic workplace but also exemplifies United Therapeutics’ dedication to creating a vibrant, purposeful, and distinctive corporate environment.
