Project Description

Nestled in the backyard of a historic bungalow in an established neighborhood of Oklahoma City, this poolside sunshade offers more than just a respite from the blistering Oklahoma summer sun.

The owner wished to expand their living space to include the outdoor area adjoining the backyard deck and swimming pool. One side of the pool is home to an extensive vegetable and flower garden adjacent to a well-used greenhouse. Several deck spaces surrounding the pool were part of the owner’s own master plan, sketched out on notebook paper over a bottle of whiskey.

Paying homage to the saltbox roof line of the greenhouse, the Oklahoma Sun Shade is composed of welded steel supports, planks of cedar, and composite decking. It is a clean and modern complement to the bungalow’s low pitched roof lines.
