Project Description

Sustainable Building Strategies
– Exposed southwest walls are covered with ‘green screen’ for cooling and protection.
– Broad roof overhang provides protection from sun and rain and reduces glare while promoting indoor/outdoor use of lobby with natural ventilation.
– Fly tower utilized to integrate a solar chimney for passive cooling.
– Main spaces in the building employ displacement ventilation, taking advantage of the single tiered seating and high volume in the theaters. This system will connect both to the central plant and the passive solar.
– A central plant is located in exterior yard adjacent to the building for acoustical isolation and to maximize efficiency of the displacement cooling and heating system.
– Theaters have load bearing concrete masonry walls to provide thermal mass and allow for night flushing to help cool the buildings in warm weather.
– Expansive roofs of main auditorium and black box have potential for future PV panels.
– Sustainable materials and low flow or waterless fixtures employed to conserve water.

Sustainable Landscape Strategies
– Low water use.
– Storm water reuse and management.
– Energy reduction.
– Recycled materials.
– Local and regionally available materials.
– Integrated plant selection/chemical management.
