Renovation / Merit
The client for this San Francisco addition hoped to leave the original 1950s house as unaltered as possible. So Joshua Aidlin, AIA, placed the new, three-story portion within an adjoining tree grove, connecting it to the main house with a minimalist glass bridge. The trees give the steel-clad addition privacy while framing ocean views. “The temptation would have been to fill up the site on the view side,” noted a judge, applauding the project’s restraint.
