Project Description

Cooper Carry was the Architect of Record on the Design-Build, GSA Design Excellence Integrated Engineering Sciences Building. The project is a 134,000 square-foot, two story, mixed-use building at the NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC), located in Hampton, Virginia.

The new facility includes: engineering collaboration space; a full-service cafeteria, food preparation accommodations, and dining and serving areas; media production services space; a multi-education and training center; a Strategic Relationship Office (SRO); education and public affairs space; a theater, conference and meeting spaces; and general shared building support areas.

This facility is the second project of what is expected to be a phased, 20-year modernization program that includes replacing aging structures with new research and development facilities. The facility is registered with the USGBC and it is anticipated that it will achieve LEED Gold certification. Sustainable design features include geothermal heating and cooling, water efficient landscaping, and sun control devices. The entire project was designed using Revit (BIM) modeling.
