Project Description
The existing house was dressed in Mediterranean finishes and details, however, its soul was modern. We stripped the Mediterranean clothing off and bared the soul to show its modern nature. At the entry, plaster finials were removed from atop pilasters and replaced with metal caps. An enormous fireplace and a step were removed between the living and dining area to make one large space. Folding doors were added to optimize the indoor to outdoor access to the courtyard and to the bay front patio. Reclaimed wood ceilings were used to express the “boat house” nick name by the owner. Brushed metal finishes also echo the boat railing and marine metal work. The ceiling finish and structural beams extend out to the bay front and to the courtyard expressing the inside outside nature of the house and its dual bay front public persona and its courtyard introverted personality.
