Project Description

This reinvented master bathroom is the epitome of bringing the outdoors in. Architect Margaret Griffin took advantage of the home’s prime beach location to transform a formerly segmented and windowless space into a bright, multi-functional retreat.

A new mosaic marble soaking tub extends the length of the telescoping door, which is set at tub height to seamlessly connect to the existing exterior courtyard. During social gatherings on warm nights, the tub can double as a small pool. The mirrored interior wall reflects the scenery, further joining the two spaces. Whether standing in the glass-enclosed shower, soaking in the tub, or seated on the adjacent bench that spans the opening, the amenities offer instant access to the home’s breathtaking ocean view while also allowing natural daylight to the interior.

Low-flow fixtures line the interior wall, leaving room for open circulation. The sleek, sophisticated materials like ebony-stained oak veneer custom cabinets, honed basalt floors, and Dolomiti slab for the tub step, counters, and shower bench work in harmony to establish an intimate space.–by Erin Ansley
