Project Description

FROM THE ARCHITECTS:

InterMission is a storefront exhibition and environment design celebrating the work of a non-profit organization that awards grants to community activists, artists and leaders. Our proposal utilizes elements of a traditional theater (lightings, curtains, and rows of seating) and reorganizes them in an immersive, non-hierarchical landscape of lights, sounds and images. We saw our design as the backstage party made public.

Exhibition content is printed on custom printed curtains. The curtains contain twice the content that could have been mounted on the gallery walls and allow visitors to manipulate the environment while physically “scrolling". The flexible curtain and furniture systems can be rapidly deployed in a host of configurations, allowing the organization to keep the installation up for several months while also hosting workshops, talks, lunches and other events in the compact storefront space.
