Project Description

This tent structure houses the Institute for Lightweight Structures, which Frei Otto founded at the University of Stuttgart in 1964. The structure, completed in 1967, sits on the university’s Vaihingen campus.

From the Architects:
Institute for Lightweight Structures at the University of Stuttgart-Vaihingen (initially a test-building of the German Pavilion, Expo ’67 in Montreal). Installation 1965, moving and upgrading 1968. The building, listed as a historic monument, was renovated in 1993.
