Project Description

FROM THE ARCHITECTS:

Instituto Guatemalteco Americano (IGA) is the only Guatemalan-United States binational institution in the country. This proposal is for the rehabilitation of the existing 1970’s edifice and the improvement of key services and functions. The design seeks to improve to an existing cultural institution the quality of education by increasing transparency and access. These themes are carried through the project, engaging with the surrounding neighborhood with new public open spaces, renovated theater, library, and galleries as well as classrooms and other programmed spaces on upper levels.
