Project Description
As a nationally recognized Church for Italians and the Catholic Community, TOPA Architecture helped restore the community of the local parishioners after the original church suffered from a devastating fire in 2014. TOPA worked alongside the parishioners and Diocese of San Jose to ensure the final redesign exceeded expectations. The redesign takes a modern interpretation of the Church’s original Italianate architectural style. As a constant focus throughout the design process the final redesign incorporates the original crucifix, eight stained glass windows, and an exterior mosaic that were saved from the fire. The crucifix is celebrated as it hangs against a large curved stained glass wall behind the sanctuary. As a highlight of the space, the stained glass wall brings the Church its own unique feature that helps bring life into this spiritual place.
