Project Description

Our client, a textile designer, wanted to use the penthouse loft as live/work space. She required an open living room/showroom, a large bedroom and bathroom for herself, a kitchen and a study.
Her goal was to maintain the spirit and character of the loft, it’s inherent openness and fluidity, and the original materials.
We achieved this by creating an open and very utilitarian kitchen, which helped define the entry area and separate the living room/showroom. We introduced a free standing storage volume, which visually separated the living area from the more private areas of the walk-in closet and bathroom.
In this same volume we concealed a 12’ sliding panel which created the required privacy for the bedroom.
Finally, a rooftop addition connected through an industrial stair, allows for a secluded and light filled study.
