Project Description

Founded in 1841, Georgetown University’s Francis J. Heyden Observatory was designated a national historic landmark in 1973. StudioMB’s feasibility study and needs assessment for the observatory—one of only two National Landmarks on Georgetown’s campus—resolves numerous design modifications and deferred maintenance while converting the small footprint into modern and accessible classrooms and offices. The proposal also includes a new general-purpose classroom building, improved grounds for the Heyden Planetarium, and resolution of adjacent athletic facility space and field needs.
