Based at the Gary / Chicago International Airport approximately 25 minutes outside of downtown Chicago, the Gary Jet Center (GJC) provides fixed base operations to a variety of corporate and general aircraft. Having recently constructed two hangars (both designed by Ghafari) to boost their capacity, they decided to build a new corporate flight center on the airport’s western campus that would enable them to offer an unparalleled, customer-focused experience and solidify their position as the region’s leader in private aviation. Ghafari worked closely with GJC stakeholders to design a luxurious flight center that would carry forward their 25-year legacy of premium service. The 8,300 SF flight center features a contemporary, glass-walled lobby with seating for over 45, an espresso bar, and unobstructed views of the airport’s recently expanded 9,000-foot runway. The facility, which provides GJC customers with direct access to their aircraft, also accommodates three crew lounges, a crew kitchen and laundry area, as well as private phone and sleep rooms and a conference room available to passengers and crews. With the addition of the corporate flight center to their portfolio of state-of-the-art aviation facilities, the Gary Jet Center completes a comprehensive renewal program that further enhances their appeal to existing and prospective clients in Chicagoland’s corporate jet market.
