Project Description
Exhibit Columbus is an annual exploration of architecture, art, design, and community.
The 2017 Exhibition featured 18 site-responsive installations located outdoors and in dialogue with one of nine design icons.
Miller Prize Installations:
The J. Irwin and Xenia S. Miller Prize Competition honors two great patrons of architecture, art, and design by furthering their mission to make Columbus the best community of its size. Ten finalists participated in the 2016 symposium and presented proposals for temporary installations that respond to iconic sites on Fifth Street. Five prize-winning designs were selected by the jury to transform the cityscape and spark new conversations about Columbus’ design heritage during the exhibition.

For an entire year the Exhibit Columbus High School Design Team immersed themselves in the roles of architect and designer. They have met with professionals, worked with local fabricators, and engaged community volunteers to help them build their installation.

Wayfinding and Environmental Design:
Rick Valicenti of Thirst was commissioned to design the graphic identity and exhibition wayfinding for Exhibit Columbus. This colorful system is a re-expression of mid-century optimism. The graphic system is also aligned with Paul Rand’s enduring identity for the Columbus Area Visitors Center and Alexander Girard’s color palette for the Miller House and Garden interiors.
