Project Description
Tetris-inspired DUOS Hotel is a 51-room condo hotel in the heart of Miami's Wynwood Arts District. MKDA devised a rectilinear building to optimize the small site and then pushed and pulled the facade to add depth and dimension. The stacked block concept – designed with perforated metal panels framed by bare concrete – was intended to resemble Tetris. The driving concept was to take the grittiness of the manufacturing district and the elegance of the artwork that Wynwood is famous for and coalesce them into a formal embrace. This formal embrace is inspired by the classic video game Tetris that emerged alongside the rise of graffiti art in the 80’s. The concept is seamlessly carried into the hotel's interior.
