Project Description

For this apartment in Tribeca, 1100 Architect transformed what had been a subdivided and poorly lit space into an open loft with abundant sunlight. Sculpted walls minimize obstructions, while the suspended ceiling visually reinforces the curvatures of corridors, seeming to hover overhead. By removing partition walls, the new design lets daylight enter into even the deepest areas of the apartment, while allowing the residents to use the space flexibly. The design also transforms the kitchen—once sequestered behind walls—into an open space connected with the living area. Custom sinks made from a colored resin animate the loft and provide a visual counterpoint to the otherwise neutral palette of fir, concrete, frosted acrylic, and brushed and polished steel. Throughout, storage is discreetly integrated into the apartment’s sculpted walls, minimizing distraction.
