Project Description
Desert Butterfly is a single-family residence that sits atop the rocky hills of Arizona. The House is nestled between massive boulders and dramatic rock outcroppings that create a beautiful contrast with the vast open views of the valley.
The main goal for the design was to maximize the buildable area to meet the specific needs of the owners while integrating the home with the natural context.
Four materials are shown predominantly throughout the house, natural stacked stone walls, smooth faced composite panels, clear glass and metal fascia/roof panels. All materials run seamlessly from inside to outside and together with large windows create a connection between the interior space and the surrounding desert while taking full advantage of the stunning views.
The project includes rain water collection, photovoltaics, solar water heating, effluent reuse and siphonic drain systems. All are located below grade or integrated within the main structure of the house to avoid disrupting the natural desert landscape.
