Project Description

A historic citrus grove plantation home had an antiquated poorly functioning, poorly planned kitchen. The current owners, the third generation of the original owners, wanted a modern functioning kitchen that blended well into the historic surroundings of the rest of the home. Due to the historic nature of the home, there was not an opportunity to add on to the existing kitchen, yet additional space needed to be acquired to meet the programmatic requirements. An adjacent mud room and laundry room were able to be absorbed into the new kitchen design floor plan. A new mudroom and laundry room were incorporated into the design for a new garage addition and connecting space. A u-shaped kitchen with an eat-in island worked best to allow traffic flow to and from the new mud room and new garage without interfering with the functions of the kitchen. New energy efficient gas appliances in stainless update the kitchen while traditional cabinetry, carved island legs and an apron sink pay homage to the historic home.
