Project Description
Ahmedabad is famous for its kite festival. The triangulations in the form are immensely inspired from the dynamics of this form rooting the culture in the design concept. The site is located strategically abutting a 36m wide road. The site measures 38 x 61 m. The design mainly considered appropriate road frontage and road widening. Southern exposure is minimized through orientation to ease the harshness of incident sunlight on the building. The building is aligned at an angle to the road leading to spectacular panoramic views of the dynamic city skyline. The building shapes itself to manage excellent response to wind. The city also known for its beautiful patch-work inspires the facade design forming patterns – quilted together. The design façade reflects a prominent and a robust form inspired from the physical qualities of the Ahmedabad diamond making it an iconic structure shining in its glory.
Considering hot and dry climate most of the time demanded shading elements external to the glazing. This will ensure minimal direct solar radiation through the glazing there by reducing heat ingress into the space to a large extent. The limit of transparency of the shading element balances aesthetical, thermal and day lighting requirements.
Façade Evolution: A diamond is cut in a form with numerous facets to have the exceptional brilliance of a diamond. The shape resembles that of a cone and provides maximized light return through the top of the diamond. Superimposing the diamond cutting methodology to the building façade, so that every facet has the potential to change a light ray’s plane of travel.
The dead core walls on the South and Southwest are cladded with solid and perforated aluminium panels which are projected in a triangulated geometry to create a sense of texture, further enhancing the building character. Use of stone and wood veneer in the interiors gives a sort of natural elegance to the space. Biophilia as a wellness strategy is been carried through the building interiors in the form of interior plants and green walls. Radiant baffle aluminium ceiling fins carrying chilled water through it for space cooling becomes a part of the false ceiling feature and interior character.
