Project Description

Hale koʻakoʻa (coral house) is conceived as series of individual living areas connected either physically or symbolically as a metaphor of the adjacent living coral reef. Seen as white contrasting objects nestled in the black lava that have found their place in years past. The architecture is informed by several elements such as cardinal and major view relationships, program hierarchy, wind patterns, site lines and day lighting & privacy. The Main Entry to the home is aligned to pick up the dramatic Kohala Coast view. The Master Hale has a sweeping view from Maui to the Kohala Coast. The Master Bedroom will be aligned with Maui and the Summer Solstice sunset. The guest cottages, separated from the Main Home by the courtyard, will have internal private gardens.
