Project Description

This new single family infill project in Detroit’s Woodbridge Neighborhood is a modern take on the historic and well established residential context. On the exterior, the house offers a minimal and clean response to the materials, forms, and architectural elements of the neighboring houses. On the interior, the house treats what would normally be the main floor – the raised ground floor – as only a mezzanine – the entry, kitchen, and dining area exist here only, and overlook the double height living area on the floor below. On the top floor are the three private bedrooms. A stairway that originates on the lower living room floor and carries all the way to the top floor, flanks the northern (long) wall.
