Project Description

The Chattanooga Golf and Country Club is located on the Tennessee River in the Riverview area of Chattanooga. The club has a rich history and a fantastic location however it did not have any dining facilities that took advantage of its riverfront location. The club came to us with the request to create an indoor/outdoor dining experience that would capitalize on the river site and respond to the recent informal dining trend in clubs. Our design is based on these two programmatic goals.

First the Overlook Grill utilizes the river as its focus and best feature. Outdoor dining overlooking the river is now offered much of the year on the new deck that was added facing the river. In good weather the windows facing the river are opened up creating a truly indoor/outdoor eating experience. The second goal of creating an informal environment is accomplished by combining organic curves and forms with the rigor of the existing building design. The new organic inspired design is interwoven with the existing geometry of the building invoking the river theme. The entry and bar area are based on the new organic curved forms while the more formal dining area revert to the geometry of the existing building. The fireplace seating area provides focus and again imposes the organic on the rigor. The interior palette of natural materials, earth tones and the interior water walls were selected to reinforce the river design theme. Dining attendance at the club has doubled with the opening of the new grill.
