Project Description

FROM THE ARTCHITECTS:

From initial discussions and earliest sketches our intention for this house for a family of 10 was two-fold: advance a scheme integrating building and landscape; and develop an architecture that melds a tactile and tectonic legibility with the abstractions of element and mass foundational to modernism. The house is placed hard to the southern edge of the site. Entering on the west, the plan is organized along an east/west axis and opens to a broad lawn on the north and a pool terrace to the east. Separating indoor from out, on the ground floor, is a continuous wall of glass interrupted by stone chimney masses and “floating” cabinets. These fragments provide moments of closure and privacy. Merging one space into the next the constellation of ”rooms” create a dialog between path/place, interior and gardens. The interplay of light, shadow, materiality, furniture and section brings scale and intimacy to the spaces.
