Project Description

The Canterbury Creek Farm School was starting in 1975 to offer an alternative education curriculum to young children. The school prides itself on teaching the children about the world around them. Their new building and barn, which opened in September 2012, sits upon six acres of animal pasture land containing an variety of farm animals, plants and insects.

The school was designed with close attention to farm-style details and components: the hand-washing sinks are metal pails, the faucets are spigots; dutch doors are hung at the entry to each classroom; rough-hewn timbers create decorative headers and rafters. One of the more interesting items is the use of an actual metal grain silo to house the art room. The silo captures the true imagery of a working farm.
