Project Description

The Bruce Vento Regional Trail Bridge will connect the Vento Regional trail to the Sam Morgan trail adjacent to the Mississippi River. These two regional trails are separated by the rail road tracks. The curvilinear design frames the scenic view of the river and downtown St. Paul in the distance. The curved alignment of the bridge is suspended only from the interior side of the curvature, creating a dramatic and visually clean structure. This distinct geometry blends beautifully with the natural setting of the Bruce Vento Nature Sanctuary. The bridge cable arrangement is dynamic and very transparently designed to enhance the scenic and natural environment.

The curvilinear, single tower suspension bridge has a clear span of approximately 500’ (152m), crossing over railroad tracks and Warner Road. It has a minimum width of 12’ (3.5m) which allows a comfortable space for both pedestrian and bicycle. The structural gesture of the pedestrian/bicycle crossing will enhance the landscape and will create a vital new connection to the regional trail system.
