Project Description
Developed on a former industrial site on downtown Hastings’ historic main street, Artspace Hastings River Lofts offers 37 live/work affordable housing units for artists and their families. The project also includes retail, art galleries, and flexible studio space that serves as an integral part of the growing artists’ community in the Hastings area. Situated between a commercial and residential district, the architecture acts as a bridge – connecting both the old with new and commerce with living. The design draws upon cues from its historic neighbors in a contemporary way – using familiar proportions, high quality materials, varying modules of height and depth, and simple but skilled detailing. Large windows and high ceilings offer abundant light in units and common areas, providing residents with affordable, high quality, flexible space.
