Ameen Ayoub Design Studio is working on a phenomenal new project located inside the popular Runyon Canyon Park in Los Angeles. This hillside mansion is planned to be built on a privately owned lot in the middle of the park next to the Lloyd Wright house and is slated to be completed in 2021.
The owner of the nearly 5 acres of land within Runyon Canyon Park wants to build within the park’s boundaries and the home would rise just off of Runyon Canyon Road and be more than 11,000 square feet in size.
Ameen designed the home to be “thoughtful and respectful,” as he is fully aware of its natural and historic surroundings. His goal is to have hikers in the historic park barely be able to notice the residence. The proposed new residence has been designed with many elements of organic style – the style of the existing historic residence and is inspired by the American Indian Cliff dwellings in the Gila Wilderness National Forest. The proposed new residence has been designed with a landscaped roof and walkways and landscaping surrounding the proposed project are designed to blend into the natural landscape of the bluff, maintaining the tradition of the organic style at the project site and minimizing the visibility of the proposed new residence. It has been designed in a modern design with curvilinear roof lines to blend with the natural topography, which is distinct from the steeply pitched roof of the historic residence. In addition, it has been designed with compatible colors and materials that are similar to the natural stone of the existing historic residence as well.
The proposed project is not physically connected to the existing historic residence and would have no impact on the integrity of its setting.
“The project goals were simple, create a true site-specific home that mirrors its natural environment through building placement, natural building materials that blend into the landscape, and a structure that is built into the hillside almost completely buried and wraps around the hillsides natural form,” says Ameen.
