Project Description
To keep with the area’s vernacular while creating a relationship to the new interiors, the front facade was retained but was reinterpreted, with the new third floor cleverly hidden behind a raised new roof. Exposed cedar eaves, a navy blue painted front door and modern materials match the neighborhood pattern, hinting at what’s inside. Working closely with interior designer Amanda Teal and the owners, the team embarked on an extensive remodel and addition, adding new square footage and rearranging the floor plan to meet the family’s 21st century needs.
At the heart of the new 3,000 square foot version is a bright and open third level revere plan containing a great room with kitchen, dining and living spaces, a spacious terrace, and hillside garden with stunning East Bay views. Floor-to-ceiling navy blue cabinets contrast with the kitchen’s waterfall marble counter, complementing the richly colored wood flooring. Expansive windows and French doors lead to the the living room’s indoor/outdoor fireplace, encourage outdoor living and use of the formerly isolated back yard.
