Project Description

FD|A was tasked with a full interior and exterior renovation to a 1920’s Italianate residence in the Country Club Hills district of Kansas City, Missouri. The architectural style and quality of the 1920’s house are largely intact on the exterior, but subsequent interior renovations and an addition completed in the 1980’s has left the house disorganized and architecturally confused. Our design intent was to correct the plan and massing of the house in keeping with the original Italianate style. The design of the interior renovation takes on a new character that is also in keeping with the formality of the original design but does so with contemporary materials and detailing. The interplay between thickened walls and openings with intricate detailing and material consideration creates an interior that is both comforting and delicate.
