Who’s on This Year’s 11 Most Endangered Historic Places List?

1 MIN READ

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s list of America’s 11 Most Endangered Historic Places. Some names on the list probably come as no surprise, such as historic post offices. Given the U.S. Postal Service’s recent cost cutting in the face of the agency’s uncertain future, it only makes sense that something would have to give. A few places may be more unexpected though, such as Texas courthouses or Atlanta’s Sweet Auburn Historic District. (If it has “historic” in the name, shouldn’t it already be preserved?)

On the bright side, only “a handful” of the 234 sites identified on the lists over the years have been lost, according to the National Trust’s website.

Want to know who else landed on the list this year? Here’s the full run-down:

1. Terminal Island – Port of Los Angeles
2. Sweet Auburn Historic District – Atlanta
3. Texas Courthouses – Texas
4. Ellis Island Hospital Complex – New York Harbor, N.Y. and N.J.
5. Joe Frazier’s Gym – Philadelphia
6. Princeton Battlefield – Princeton, N.J.
7. Historic Post Office Buildings – Nationwide
8. The Village of Zoar – Zoar, OH
9. Theodore Roosevelt’s Elkhorn Ranch – Billings County, N.D.
10. Malcolm X – Ella Little – Collins House –Boston
11. Bridges of Yosemite Valley – Yosemite National Park, Calif.
