The Laddie Chest from Councill

Designer John Black contrasts this chest’s traditional frame with a freeform, hand-painted finish.

Councill teamed with designer John Black to create Laddie, a chest whose silhouette is framed by three full-extension drawers with antique nickel pulls, an inset top, and square tapered legs. Its finish, which pairs white Arabesque detailing with gray shading that was hand-painted using Q-tips and wads of newspaper, visually evokes multiple dimensions.
