Today, Portland, Ore.–based THA Architecture announced a new identity under the name Hacker to honor its founding principal, Thomas Hacker, FAIA, who established the architecture and interior design firm in 1983.
The firm placed 15th overall in the 2015 ARCHITECT 50, a ranking of the top 50 design firms in the U.S. It also came in at spot No. 13 for business, No. 19 for design, and No. 44 in sustainability. Its commitment to green design has won the firm a number of awards, including a 2012 AIA COTE Top Ten Green Project for the Mercy Corps Global Headquarters, in Portland, Ore. It also received the 2013 AIA Northwest and Pacific Region Firm of the Year award.

The firm’s recent projects include the newly-completed New Home for the Unitarian Universalists Fellowship of Central Oregon, the Portland Japanese Garden Expansion that broke ground on Aug. 31, and a nine-story office building planned for Portland’s Pearl District.
“Hacker is a more diverse practice than ever, with a new interiors group and a growing portfolio of commercial work, but how we use our gifts to support the human endeavor and connect community with place in dynamic and meaningful ways, these remain the questions that underpin everything we do,” design principal Corey Martin said in a press release.
