The Georgia Tech School of Architecture, in Atlanta, has appointed Scott Marble, AIA, founding partner at New York’s Marble Fairbanks Architects, its new chair. According to the school’s press release, Marble will focus his position on driving technological innovation and collaboration within the program.
“It’s typical that an architect is known as a leader of big teams,” Marble said. “That’s still important to maintain, but I think the next generation is going to be less about the more historical model of the ‘master builder’ and more about what I would refer to as the ‘master collaborator.’”
Marble will begin his new position on July 1 and replace interim chair Richard Dagenhart, who has held the position since July 1. George Johnston, the previous chair, holds a faculty position within the school.
Marble is also an adjunct associate professor of architecture at Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation. In his new position, he will maintain his partnership at Marble Fairbanks Architects.
As both an educator and practitioner, Marble will speak at the upcoming AIA
Convention held in his new city of employment, from May 14 to 16, in a presentation on the intersections
between academy and practice.
