SCI-Arc Creates Comprehensive Digital Archive

Public lectures, discussions, and exhibitions on architecture now can be viewed through an online portal

More than 700 speakers covering 3,000 architecture, design, engineering, and construction topics now can be seen and heard online by anyone from anywhere in the world. SCI-Arc recently created a comprehensive digital archive containing videos of all public events that took place at the school since 1974. These presentations were digitized and made available as part of the Getty Foundation’s statewide art and design initiative, Pacific Standard Time, along with support from the National Endowment for the Arts.

The SCI-Arc archive website offers browsing options by speaker, topic, date, or theme. Many of the speakers have multiple clips from different lectures, which allow viewers to witness various points in that speaker’s career. Most videos are divided into chapters for easier scanning; the site also contains a search function to find a specific person, firm, or topic. The videos feature past and current architectural luminaries including Tadao Ando, Will Bruder, Teddy Cruz, Charles and Ray Eames, Julie Eizenberg, Frank O. Gehry, Zaha Hadid, Steven Holl, Ray Kappe, Rem Koolhaas, John Lautner, Thom Mayne, Eric Owen Moss, Billie Tsien, and hundreds more.
