Today, the California College of the Arts (CCA) in San Francisco and Oakland, Calif., announced the appointment of Keith Krumwiede as the new dean of architecture. In 2017, Krumwiede was named a Rome Prize fellow in architecture, for which he investigated “origins of the suburban house on the Italian peninsula,” according to the American Academy in Rome.

“We are thrilled to welcome educator, designer, author, and satirist Keith Krumwiede to CCA,” said CCA provost Tammy Rae Carland in a press release. “Keith is a multifaceted professional that maintains a rare sense of humor about architecture while greatly advancing the field through his work in higher education, scholarship, criticism, and design.”

A graduate of the University of California, Berkeley (B.Arch.) and the Southern California Institute of Architecture (M.Arch.), Krumwiede previously served as the director of graduate architecture programs at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, and as the assistant dean of the School of Architecture at Yale University. Last year, he penned the book Atlas of Another America: An Architectural Fiction (Park Books, 2017) and exhibited a 50-foot-long scenic wallpaper based on Joseph Dufour’s and Xavier Mader’s 1814 wallpaper “The Monuments of Paris” at the 2017 Chicago Architecture Biennial.

Krumwiede is taking over from interim dean of architecture, Lisa Findley, and will begin his new role in August.
