Bauhaus architect Marcel Breuer (1902–1981) has gone digital—or at least his legacy has. In April, Syracuse University cut the virtual bow on the Marcel Breuer Digital Archive, which was funded by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and preserves and celebrates the late Hungarian’s pre-1955 work. During that period, Breuer’s work was inspired by the Industrial Age, and he worked on several seminal commissions—now featured in the archives, including the Sarah Lawrence College Art Center in Bronxville, N.Y., and Saint John’s Abbey in Collegeville, Minn. The university is now trying to secure a second round of funding to put towards digitally capturing the rest of Breuer’s International Style architecture, as he transitioned from Bauhaus to Brutalism. • breuer.syr.edu
