The 21 Coolest Architecture Photos From the Sony World Photography Awards

ARCHITECT's favorites from this year's Sony World Photography Awards.

1 MIN READ

On Tuesday, the World Photography Organisation announced several winners in this year’s Sony World Photography Awards. The competition is fierce—139,554 images were submitted from 166 countries around the world—and the program includes professional, student, youth, national, and open awards. More winners will be announced next month.

Many of the contest’s photos featuring architecture frame or focus on a building so the image becomes almost abstract. Other building shots are closer to journalism. Ranked randomly, here are some of the coolest shots of architecture in the bunch. (Brownie points to anyone who can name the architects. We’ll even give you a head start: the second shot features the recently completed De Rotterdam by Rem Koolhaas, Hon. FAIA, in the Netherlands.)
