Architecture lovers in and around New York may want to set aside a few evenings in October to attend the first annual New York Architecture & Design Film Festival (ADFF). In creating the New York ADFF, architect Kyle Bergman, principal of Warren, Vt.–based Bergman Design Team, and design publishing expert Laura Cardello aim to celebrate the creative spirit of designers and the design professions and to highlight the connection between film and architecture. The goal is to bring together professionals and nonprofessionals in an entertaining and educational forum that will stimulate discussions about design.

Slated to open Oct. 14 with a screening of Eye Over Prague, a documentary dedicated to Czech architect Jan Kaplicky, the New York ADFF will feature 41 films covering topics that range from architecture, architectural personalities, and urban design to graphics and product design. Films are organized thematically into 13 groups, including “Enduring Icons,” “Poetry in Motion,” “Design/Build,” “Tower Power,” and “Graphically Speaking.” Many of the programs run concurrently on the same day, but are repeated throughout the festival.

Some of the film screenings will be followed by question and answer sessions with the featured architects and/or filmmakers. Several panel discussions also will take place; visit www.adfilmfestival.com/speakers.html to view the schedule.

All New York ADFF events will be held at Tribeca Cinemas. A complete schedule of film programs is available at www.adfilmfest.com; tickets may be purchased online in advance for $12 ($10 for AIA, ASID, and IILD members).
