Eames: The Architect and the Painter

, a new documentary on design-centric couple Charles and Ray Eames, is now available on DVD. The film explores the Eames’ influence on significant American lifestyle trends and shares insights into the personal lives of the husband-and-wife team. A tour of the Eames’ house, archival materials such as photographs and letters, and interviews with several people including their daughter, grandson, former employees, and more are woven together through narration written by the creator of the film, Jason Cohn. Cohn became interested in the Eames through a six-volume set of their films received as a gift and a subsequent obsession with their widely recognized chairs. A DVD of the documentary is available for purchase, plus it premiered this week on PBS’ American Masters series and will be repeated throughout the month. In addition, several public screenings are planned—a full schedule of locations and dates is available here.
