The National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) has announced a new president and first vice president for its Board of Directors. Huntsville, Ala.–based architect Kristine Harding, AIA, will serve as NCARB’s 97th president, leading the organization and its 54 licensing boards in the U.S., according to a press release. She will be joined by Gregory Erny, AIA, an architect in Reno, Nev., who is stepping into the position of first vice-president and president-elect vacated by Harding. Erny will become NCARB president in June 2017. The announcement was made at NCARB’s annual meeting, held last week in Seattle.

Harding is the vice president and group manager of the Huntsville office of the KPS Group. In 2011, she was elected to the NCARB Board of Directors representing the organization’s Southern Conference, which covers Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. She holds a B.Arch. from Rice University.
Erny is the president of Architects Plus, a practice he established in Reno in 1983. He served as the chair of the Nevada Board of Architecture, Interior Design, and Residential Design from 2011 to 2013. He has been involved with NCARB since 2008, with positions including secretary and regional director for its Western Conference, which covers Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Guam, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, and Washington. He earned a bachelor’s degree in environmental design as well as a B.Arch. from Ball State University, in Muncie, Ind.

Also announced at NCARB’s annual meeting, outgoing board president Dennis Ward, FAIA, awarded the council’s President’s Medal for Distinguished Service, which recognizes designers who are highly committed to the architectural profession, to six individuals: Jon Alan Baker, FAIA, San Diego; Dawn Broadfield, Cranston, R.I.; John E. Cardone, Jr., Lake Charles, La.; Ricky L. Engebretson, AIA, Fargo, N.D.; Maribel Fisher, AIA, Ensenada, Mexico; and Jared Zurn, AIA, Manassas Park, Va.
This news follows a spate of recent announcements from NCARB that includes a more streamlined path to licensure for non-accredited degree holders, and a launch date for the Architect Registration Exam version 5.0.
