Construction is well underway for an England vacation house that looks like something from Alice in Wonderland. The project was designed by U.K. artist Grayson Perry and London studio FAT, and is expected to be completed this year and available to rent next Spring.
Living Architecture, which released new pictures of the project last week, commissioned “A House for Essex” for the organization’s series of modern vacation rentals. The organization’s series also includes projects by Michael and Patty Hopkins of London’s Hopkins Architects, Rotterdam, Netherlands–based MVRDV, Glasgow, Scotland–based Northern Office for Research and Design, Jarmund/Vigsnæs Arkitekter from Oslo, Norway, and London’s David Kohn Architects.
A House for Essex is the final project for FAT, which revealed in December that the firm was dissolving. The firm behind the redesign and giant sign for the Thornton Heath Library also worked with Rotterdam’s Crimson Architectural Historians on the British Pavilion exhibition for the Venice Biennale, which closes in November.
The house’s interiors will not be completed until the end of the year, but the section drawing below shows something that looks like a moped chandelier.
