Collaborating with the Buckminster Fuller Institute, alternative map publisher ODT Maps has faithfully reproduced the original Raleigh Edition Dymaxion Map, designed by R. Buckminster Fuller in 1954. The Buckminster Fuller Institute has distributed copies of the map for 25 years, but when copies ran out and the original films were nowhere to be found, the organization contracted Amherst, Mass.-based ODT to recreate it.
The Dymaxion Map’s land mass colors and grayscale shading of the oceans represent mean low annual temperatures as they existed in 1954, offering a unique glimpse into geographic history.
The reproduction map is now available in a variety of formats, including 22-inch-by-34-inch laminated or folded paper wall maps, postcards, desktop maps, magnets, and stickers. Configured as a 20-sided polyhedron, the map can be unfolded and arranged into several patterns—a reminder from Fuller that “there are many ways to see the world.”
