Bloomberg Businessweek Design: Craig Dykers

Snøhetta wins for extreme-sports architecture presentations at the Bloomberg Businessweek Design conference. With an opera house.

The Bloomberg Businessweek Design conference hosted in San Francisco today followed a format that will be familiar to anyone who knows architecture. The sessions were divided into sessions by the size of the technology being discussed: S, M, L, XL.

You might could guess where Snøhetta fits into this scheme, even if you didn’t attend any of the panels. The firm is designing the 235,000-square-foot expansion to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, currently under construction just a few blocks away from the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, where today’s conference took place.

Sounds XL, right? Not so much. The largest camp instead included Framestore (who created special effects for Gravity), Tobias Kinnebrew (a robot-maker with Bot & Dolly), and Gordon Gill, FAIA (who talked about a decarbonization scheme for Chicago). Instead of XL, Dykers went for Xtreme—sharing some of the greatest videos filmed at the Oslo Opera House.

There was more to his talk, but it’s all hard to remember after seeing a video of motocross on a Snøhetta–designed project. Without further ado:
