In a partnership between the AIA’s Architects Foundation and Boston-based Payette Associates, the annual Payette Sho-Ping Chin Memorial Academic Scholarship is now accepting applications for the 2018-19 academic year. Established in 2016 to commemorate longtime Payette principal Sho-Ping Chin, FAIA, who passed away in 2015, the program awards $10,000 to a woman pursuing a professional, National Architectural Accrediting Board–accredited architecture program degree. This year, Olivia Huang of New Jersey, an M.Arch. student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, won the award.

“Sho-Ping was a wonderful mentor and instilled in her teams a sense of camaraderie and commitment to design,” said Kevin Sullivan, Payette president and long-time colleague of Sho-Ping in a press release. “The impact of her work at our firm and throughout the profession is still felt today. We are honored to continue her legacy and commitment to advancing women in architecture through this scholarship.”

Qualifying students must, at a minimum, be entering their third year of undergraduate study and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Applicants will be required to provide their résumé, a personal essay, examples of their creative work, and two letters of recommendation, among other requirements.

Students can apply through Jan. 17, 2018 and winners will be notified in April 2018.
