Three new table designs recently were unveiled from Blu Dot, the architect-founded furniture and home accessory design company. All three pieces use steel and wood to produce a warm but polished feel. Each table has a distinct look, but the materials and forms allow them to work together in the same space. The entire collection is available through Blu Dot’s website or in stores that carry the company’s line.
The Branch dining table follows the rectilinear forms commonly seen throughout Blu Dot’s pieces. The solid oak table top is supported by black, powder-coated steel “branches.” The weathered oak surface softens the spartan steel legs. The table comes in two lengths—76 inches and 91 inches—and is 33-inches deep by 29-inches tall. The Pi coffee and side tables invert the wood and steel combination by using black steel wedges as the table top supported by walnut braces that slice through the steel. The clever pattern symmetrically pinwheels around a geometric cut-out detail. The final member of the new collection offers a more organic form that’s a slight design departure for the clean line-minded company. The Lily Pad coffee table consists of three walnut circles each perched on a single steel and wood pillar connected by movable steel arms. The result is a multitiered table that can fold up or spread out for various looks and uses.
