This summer budding decorative artists, as well as their more experienced counterparts, can hone their skills at the new creative arts wing of View in Old Forge, N.Y., which sits on the shores of First Lake in Adirondack National Park. Donated by family-owned Meyda Tiffany and Lighting—a company that began when Ida Cohen asked her husband to make a stained glass window for their home—the wing is part of a new LEED-certified, 28,000-square-foot building. This section of the multi-arts facility will focus on courses, lectures, workshops, and presentations to teach decorative and creative arts. The new wing features a large and well-appointed pottery studio center with a clay recycling facility. There’s also a multipurpose workspace with tools for woodworking, textile creation, jewelry-making, painting, photography, and children’s crafts. According to executive director Jennifer Potter Hayes, additional room and equipment means the organization will be able to more than double the number of fine arts workshops where the center invites respected craftspeople and artisans from across the country to teach intensive one-week classes.
The Meyda Tiffany and Lighting Creative Arts Wing opened in June with a full selection of activities scheduled throughout the summer and beyond.
