Today, architects Sherwood Butler and Jeannie Pierce Thacker established Tria, a Boston-based architectural practice that will design laboratories and other facilities for local science and technology organizations. Butler, Tria’s managing principal, and Thacker, principal, are former principals at Perkins+Will‘s Boston office. They also worked together at Boston-based Signer Harris Architects, which Perkins+Will acquired in 2012. At their previous firms, the architects designed for life sciences clients. In addition to her design experience, Thacker also has a scientific background, with research positions at Harvard Medical School and Takeda Pharmaceuticals.

“Scientific breakthroughs require fresh thinking, technology tools, and the physical space in which to bring discoveries to life,” Butler said in a press release. “By matching our skills and experience to our clients’ mission and vision, we solve business challenges and foster innovation.”

Tria is supported by a strategic investment by DPS Engineering, based in Framingham, Mass. The two companies say they will maintain a complimentary working relationship, but will not be exclusive partners.
