NCARB By The Numbers: 2016 In Review

The licensing body releases insights into architectural education, the path to licensure, and diversity in the profession.

The National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) has released the full NCARB By The Numbers annual report outlining data-driven insights on architectural education, time to licensure, diversity in architecture, and more from in 2016.

“Every year, the profession turns to NCARB by the Numbers for comprehensive and insightful data on the path to licensure,” said NCARB president Gregory L. Erny, FAIA, in a press release. “As our data analytic capabilities expand, we are now able to shine a light on intriguing, and sometimes controversial, topics—including improving diversity among practitioners and shortening the timeline to licensure.”

According to the report, the Architectural Experience Program saw an all-time-high class of 8,100 licensure candidates complete the course. As ARCHITECT reported previously, time to licensure is down to 12.5 years, 36 percent of newly licensed architects are women, up from 34 percent in 2015.
