Today, The Cooper Union named Nader Tehrani as dean of the Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture. Tehrani is the principal of Boston-based NADAAA, which ranked 25th overall inthe 2014 ARCHITECT 50, as well as an architecture professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he headed the architecture department from 2010 to 2014.

Tehranihas received numerous honors for his work in design, including 16 Progressive Architecture Awards for projects such as the Ordos 20+10 Office Complex (2015), the Cooper Hewitt National Design Award in Architecture, and the U.S. Artists Fellowship in Architecture & Design.

“I look forward to working closely with its faculty and students as we extend the school’s mission into the next era,” said Tehrani in a press release. “Now is also a time to expand our conversations with the schools of Art and Engineering, and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, to catalyze the broadening of architectural discourse within the institution as a whole.”

The news comes nearly four weeks after former Cooper Union president Jamshed Bharucha announced his resignation amid financial controversy and an upheaval within the board of directors. Bharucha’s term ended yesterday and William Mea, the school’s vice president for finance and administration, took over as interim president today.
